Phone spam
Japanese phones are a few light years ahead of anything in NZ. For one thing, they don’t “text” in Japan, they “email”. Texting is available in Japan, but by email you can write longer messages with up to a thousand couple of characters or something, I don’t know, I get cramp before I can get that far. So anyways, when you want to give someone your phone details, you have the choice of either giving them your phone number (and potentially get pestered with phone calls) OR, you can give them your email without having to give away your phone number. Cool story, Hansel. Something like that, I still don’t fully understand it. Here is my sweet phone.
Anyways, like with PC emails, unfortunately your phone is also prone to spam. I wish someone had told me this before I set my email address to the simplest address I could think of. Most Japanese are smart and have cunning emails like 4.8fn3zz0f_.348f_.@softbank.ne.jp. Smart. I don’t even know how they (whoever they are) got my email, especially as I have less than 25 contacts, but I get about two to three spam mail everyday.
Some of them make me laugh though. I mean, guess how much of this I can understand.
(Translation after consulting with a Japanese friend: Are you lonely? Having trouble finding that special someone? This is your invitation to our dating party. It could lead to SEX!)
And this one.
(Translation: Looking for a part-time job? Looking to jump-start your career? Ever fancied working in a Pachinko parlour? Here’s your chance! OK!)
Heh heh.
